I mow and lot of hilly areas and have thus far left my FEL on the tractor while mowing to provide weight, but it gets in the way. I'm considering front wheel weights or bumper weights instead. It seems to me that the wheel weights would provide better ballast since they would be lower, but how hard are they to take off? I also use the tractor for landscaping and do not need the extra weight. Thanks for the thoughts, Mark

I use the suitcase style front bumper weights which are easy to put on and take off. However, the front end is still a little light with the MX6 cutter on a JD4700. I will be adding a liquid ballast, (anti-freeze & water), into the front tires. This adds weight and lowers the CG.

Anthony- Your post brings up a question I had: I ordered my TC33D with filled tires. They haven't been filled yet... it will be done when my loader finally shows up. I was curious, however... the dealer says they never fill front tires, just back ones. That was news to me. What comments do others have on this? I will sometimes need to mow trails with the loader off for maneuverability. The small suitcase weights I have seem a bit light to balance my 500# Woods brush mower. Should I insist on filling the front tires as well, or does this have some adverse effect on the front end? ....

The ballast on a tractor is normally something that varies greatly with the jobs. It is rare to put fluid in the fronts and extremely rare with a frontend loader. The lighter the tractor is set up to do a job the longer it will live and it will be far more productive and fuel efficient. I would suggest removeable weight for the front. ....
